Belturbet EF Survey Results, July 2019
The average Ecological Footprint (EF) of Belturbet residents calculates at 3.03 global Hectares (gHa). This means if everyone in the world lived as the average Belturbet citizen, we would need 1.7 planets.
The 2019 Belturbet EF Result compares well with the national average, this being over 3 planets.
This is the Baseline we will use to chart our progress to our target of 50% waste reduction over the next 5 years.
Beginning in September, the next step on our Belturbet Zero Waste journey will be a series of workshops on achievable low-carbon changes.
Many thanks to all involved in bringing our Zero Waste project to this stage. For full details of the project check out our web page and stay in touch through our Facebook Page.

A major new youth service has just been announced for Belturbet in County Cavan.
It’s an extension of the Bounce Back Youth Service which currently operates in some towns throughout the county, and is managed by Youth Work Ireland and the ISPCC. Belturbet has been identified as having a lack of dedicated youth services and support workers, and a dedicated youth drop-in cafe or youth space.
Under the new project, three youth workers will be based in Belturbet to provide services which support young people experiencing difficulties with drug and alcohol abuse, anti-social behaviour and mental health.
The project will also involve the development of a Youth Resilience Group Work Programme to help young people cope with the challenges of life today.
Maureen McIntyre, who is the Youth Officer with Cavan Monaghan ETB who are administering the project, says a number of concerns were raised about the lack of youth services in Belturbet in the past.

Breffni Integrated is working with Belturbet Community Development Association and Foróige to try and start a Foróige Club Youth Club in Belturbet. There are huge benefits for young people and for the town in setting up a new club. Breffni Integrated will be holding an initial meeting in Belturbet on Wednesday 8th June from 8pm-9pm in the Town Hall for new leaders
We will be looking for people who are willing to train with a Foróige Development worker to be leaders of the club. Training is provided free of charge and becoming a leader can also help leaders gain new skills and work experience.
To find out more about Foróige see http://www.foroige.ie To find out more or to register your interest in becoming a leader contact Sandy Holland Tel: 071 9853321 or check out https://westcavan.com/local-community-groups-lcgs/new-belturbet-foroige-youth-club/
